Questions

What does rel="sponsored" mean?

It tells search engines a link was paid for. Google asks for it on paid links; links marked sponsored or nofollow don't pass ranking credit, and that's the honest default for sponsored content.

What is a dofollow link?

A link with no sponsored, nofollow or ugc value in its rel attribute. Search engines may count it as an endorsement. On a paid placement, Google treats an unmarked link as a link scheme.

Why does indexing matter?

A page search engines can't index won't be found in search, and AI assistants that search the web won't see it either. A noindex tag or header quietly hides a placement.
